Throughout the Easter holiday customer activity dropped by 70% while sales fell by 10-20%,” Nika Tsintsadze, Director at Galleria Tbilisi, says.

According to Tsintsadze, the decline in the number of buyers is more significant than the decline in sales that can be explained by the arrival of first foreign tourists in Tbilisi.

“We installed devices at all entrances to count  the number of visitors that showed  that this figure was 70%. In theory, sales should have dropped by the same amount, but in reality the decline in sales was only 10-20% that can be explained  by the arrival of tourists. Our center is  visited by a lot of tourists as we are located in the very center of Tbilisi, this segment is extremely important for us. The number of tourists has grown very slightly compared to 2019, but it  has positively affected the sales, ”he notes.

Tsintsadze believes along with the recovery of the tourism industry, the number of buyers will increase.

“Despite the pandemic, we are  attracting new brands that are not yet present in Georgia. Taking into account the situation in the world, we will manage to bring  new brands at the beginning of 2022,” Nika Tsintsadze says.

He adds that  the center has avoided the mass withdrawal of stores - only 2-3 stores have stopped operating  that has not  affected the situation.
