“The principles of  the state universal health care program should be  developed and focus on the interests of citizens. At the same time, the interests of the health care  sector that provides services to citizens should be taken into account,” Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said at a meeting with representatives of clinics.

The meeting focused on the Health Ministry’s  recent decision to  introduce single  tariffs for medical services for all medical institutions within  the state universal health care  program.

According to the head of government, the reform of the health system carried out in recent years turned out to be  very successful due to the joint actions of the government and the private sector.

After the meeting the clinics representatives called it effective and agreed to create a commission to  study the shortcomings of the new tariff policy.

“The adopted decision will not be delayed or canceled but we hope a reasonable and constructive way will be found  out of this situation, ”General Director of the Evex clinic network Giorgi Mindiashvili says.

In the words of  David Mikeladze, Director of the Open Heart cardiology clinic, the meeting with the Prime Minister was held in a constructive atmosphere.

“The Prime Minister listened to us very carefully and promised the issue would be reviewed. The decision will not be  delayed, but there is a chance to come to a consensus so that patients do not suffer,” he explains.

President of the Georgian Association of Angiologists and Vascular Surgeons Zaza Lazarashvili says that the Prime Minister refused to consider the postponement of reform, as believes that  the universal  health care  program should be  further developed.

“The Ministry of Health was instructed to correct all the errors in the document as soon as possible. It was said that errors should be corrected while  tariffs should be logical, ”he notes.

According to president of the Georgian Society of Cardiology Alexander Aladashvili, the parties agreed on cooperation in this matter.

“A working group will be created, which will include representatives of both the Ministry of Health and clinics as well as  professional associations who  will work on the development  of new standards,” he explains.
