“The importance of infrastructure development is unequivocal that should be provided by the state and if the issue is resolved, it will automatically boost the opening of new facilities by commercial organizations and individuals. The main task is to fully service the regions. For example, in Svaneti there is no normal connection to the  internet, no gas , poor roads. Ex- President Mikheil Saakashvili planned to carry out  Kutaisi tunnel project, if it is not done, Svaneti will remain the same  and will be visited by wandering tourists in the summer season, " Irakli Gurchiani, founder of Toyota Center Tbilisi, says commenting on a statement by Verner Lipach,  Central And West Asia Department, Asian Development Bank, about  challenges faced by Georgia's investment environment.

Werner Lipach believes that Georgia’s investment environment is one of the best in the region, but  there are still challenges such as infrastructure, energy issues and human resources.

"Mestia Development Plan envisages the creation of  200,000 beds, which will require a lot of staff, so people from other regions will be hired. But  only after the main road will be built  or tunnel from Kutaisi that will make Svaneti very attractive for  tourists," ” Irakli Gurchiani  explains.

Zurab Chkhaidze, founder of Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking Company (KTW Group), considers retraining of employees  a major challenge.

“Georgia actually faces the  problems in terms of human resources training. Georgia needs to realize that everything must be done to educate new staff, this should be not only the government’s challenge but the population’s  social responsibility. In my opinion, the country’s main investment should be made in preparation of  qualified staff. As for the infrastructure development, I think large amounts should be spent for this purpose this year. If we want to develop tourism and the region, we should start with infrastructure development, ”Zurab Chkhaidze stresses.
