Growth rate of Georgia’s international tourist arrivals has improved noticeably in Q2 2021 compared to the previous quarter.
The number of overnight trips amounted 96.5 thousand in May 2021, posting a 23% recovery of the 2019 level
The dynamics differ by countries, with improvement also seen in the region. A more accelerated recovery is observed in Turkey, where tourists are exempt from the mobility restrictions.
Number of international visits through Batumi Airport has improved substantially, at -35% in May relative to 2019.
Arrivals at Tbilisi and Kutaisi Airports were down by -74% and by -83% in the same period, respectively.
As land borders are now open, we expect the recovery to accelerate further on the back of visitors from neighboring countries, which accounted for 71% of international visitor trips to Georgia in 2019. Albeit, for visitor countries, the level of vaccinated population should also be taken into consideration, which is relatively lower in the region.
