Sale of loose tobacco to be banned in Georgia from November 21

Due to the increase in excise tax and significant price hikes on cigarettes, some smokers have switched to loose tobacco that was much cheaper.

Following the amendments to the tax legislation, the sale of loose tobacco will be banned starting November 21, including the one  traditionally used for smoking pipe.

 The sale of tobacco will be allowed  only in packages weighing 50 and 100 grams,  an excise stamp, warnings about the dangers of smoking should present on the product.

A violation of the new norm will be fined GEL 2 000 for the first time, in case of repeated violation - GEL 4 000.


It is also prohibited to sell unpacked e-cigarette liquid.
