The new Silk Road Conference and participation in
it is even a higher priority for us and we are proud of it, - Georgian Prime
Minister Giorgi Gakharia said in his speech at the opening of the Silk
As the PM pointed out, today's forum is a result of the success of two previous forums.
“I am pleased that Georgia continues to host such an important event. Today we have over 2000 delegates from over 60 countries around the world. Georgia has historically played a very important role in the development of the Silk Road. In the context of modern economic integration and globalization, trade-related economic development is of paramount importance.
The new Silk Road Conference and participation in it is even a higher priority for us and we are proud of it. It is noteworthy that Georgia was one of the first countries to respond to the One Belt One Road initiative of the Chinese President. The initiative was aimed at creating new trade corridors and improving existing ones, based on the principles of mutually beneficial cooperation between the countries, with the aim of promoting the development of trade economic relations between China and the countries supporting the project. Georgia backed the initiative and signed a memorandum of cooperation with China in 2015, which gave new impetus to the deepening of economic relations between Georgia and China, and this has already yielded results,” Giorgi Gakharia said.
According to him, today a free trade agreement is signed between Georgia and the Republic of China, while Tbilisi Silk Road Forum is an important opportunity to deepen ties between Asia and Europe.
“The forum is an effective platform, where representatives of the Silk Road Initiative, international organizations and the private sector share experiences and discuss economic challenges in the region”, the PM said.
