In January 2018 the number of international arrivals in Georgia increased by 14.8%, and the number of tourists increased by 23% compared to the same period of previous year, - Giorgi Chogovadze, Head of the National Tourism Administration of Georgia, states.
According to Chogovadze, in January 2018 the number of the international arrivals totaled 444,241.
189,476 travelers stayed in the country for 24 hours and longer that is 35,393 more compared to the previous year.
The majority of foreign travelers were from Azerbaijan (+0.8%), from Turkey (+20.1%), Armenia (+20.9%), Russia (+14.6%) and Iran (+92.4%).
A positive trend was also observed from the European Union countries. A notable increase was registered of Czech +59%, Latvian (+46%), United Kingdom (+31%), Dutch +28% and Lithuanian (+16%) travelers. Exceptional growth in arrivals was recorded of citizens of the following countries: Kuwait + 131%, Saudi Arabia + 127%, Iran +92%, Israel +77%, India +48%, Turkey +20%.
