The number of foreign tourists in Georgia will return to 2019 levels no earlier than 2023, a study conducted by the PMC Sociological Center says.
Tourism industry experts who were involved in the study expressed their views on the prospects for the industry development in the post-pandemic period.
Most experts, namely 53.3%, believe that the sector will return to the 2019 level in 2023, while 26.7% are more pessimistic in this regard forecasting the sector’s return to 2019 levels in 2024.
60% of experts predict that the sector’s revenues will reach 20-40% of 2019 level in 2021.
At the same time, none of the experts expects that in 2021 the revenues of the tourism industry will exceed 60% of the 2019 figure.
As reported, in 2019 the revenues of the tourism sector exceeded $ 3 billion, the number of foreign visitors exceeded 7, 7 million.
