The Minister of Agriculture Levan Davitashvili met with managers of wine companies and discussed the grapes  collection and purchase.

Davitashvili says that this year’s harvest is entering  the active phase, but due to rainy weather in September it is still difficult to predict crop yields.

“The meeting showed that more active communication and coordination between business and the state will be able to jointly respond to the challenges caused by weather. We met with winemakers to more actively involve the business in the grape harvesting. The private sector should assume its share of responsibility to provide successful grape harvesting and purchase as in previous years, ”Levan Davitashvili notes.

Winemakers said that the grapes purchase from farmers  will be more active if contacts with the state are closer to avoid problems with the harvest.

Wine companies have already purchased 80,000 tons of grapes, this year’s  harvest is expected to reach 200-250 thousand tons.

Up to 140 winemaking companies purchased grapes from the farmers, 270 are registered at the harvest coordination headquarters.
