one year left before the election. Consequently, we are not going to discuss
any new initiatives related to the electoral system, Kakha Kaladze, the
Secretary General of the Georgian Dream party, said at the briefing held
at the party office today.
According to him, the elections will be held under the current constitution, within the set deadlines, with the highest democratic standards and with the very high involvement of the international community.
“We call on our opponents to prepare for the elections and not blame the electoral systems for the lack of people's support. Clearly, every electoral system has its advantages and disadvantage. However, both electoral systems are legitimate and democratic. Elections in 2020 will be held in a mixed system. The elections are won by public confidence and not by the electoral system. We would like to remind you that in 2012, we changed the regime of violence and cruelty through the current electoral system,” Kakha Kaladze said.
As he noted, the ruling team will be very patient.
"However, we clearly want to say that if the destructions continue, the authorities will have an appropriate response," the Georgian Dream's Secretary General said.
