“Frequent   talk that the more wine we’ll sell in Russia, and the more Russian tourists will come to Georgia, the higher the likelihood that we will change our  pro-Western orientation at best is nonsense,  at worst - sabotage” - Finance Minister Ivane Machavariani says.re

According to the Minister, improved relations with Russia doesn’t mean that claims about the occupied territories are canceled or softened.

“It is clear that Russia, unfortunately, will not change its position on these issues. What does “building relationships” mean? This relates to business, economy, human contacts maximally separating all this from politics, ” Machavariani explains.

The Minister believes  this is actually quite a complex question. on the one hand the county has a serious claim to Russia, on the other – the two countries are deepening the relations in various areas.

“It’s quite possible in politics, and if we’re responsible for this, we’ll facilitate the situation for  those thousands of our fellow citizens who are involved  in the tourism industry. We should care about them. It’s very stupid to make excuses about that too much wine was exported to Russia, ”Ivane Machavariani says.
