"While implementing major infrastructure projects most violations are revealed in the road construction," as per the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Georgia Ilya Begiashvili.

According to Begiashvili, 60% of the ministry’s budget funds is spent on  the construction of roads, 25-30% - on the  water supply, 10-15% - on schools and kindergartens.

In  the deputy minister’s words, the updated data show that the largest and most frequent violations occur during  the construction of internal roads, and the number of penalized companies in  2018 exceeds 100.

"We’ve  recently intensified monitoring and set up special groups, which include representatives of various departments. Dozens of projects have already been checked. Step by step inspections will cover all regions of Georgia," the Deputy Minister notes.

Begiashvili adds that large-scale violations are not generally revealed  because if the company cannot fulfill its obligations, it receives a warning, then it is fined, and eventually loses the contract.

"As soon as we see that the company will not be able to fulfill its obligations, we immediately start taking measures envisaged by the law. Most violations are related to non-observance of deadlines for fulfilling orders, while to  the quality of work there are fewer claims, " the official explains.

In the past period of 2018, 770 infrastructure projects worth GEL 250 million have been carried out  in the regions of Georgia.
