Georgia’s unemployment fell to 11.1%

Georgia’s unemployment rate fell by 1.1 percentage points in the third quarter of 2019 and stood at 11.1 percent, Sakstat reports.

The share of hired employees made  50.6 percent of the total number of employees in the third quarter of 2019 that is  0.6 percentage points less compared with  the same period of  last year.

The unemployment rate is much lower in rural areas than in urban areas. In the third quarter of 2019 the unemployment rate decreased by 1.7 percentage points in urban areas compared to the same period of the previous year  and by 0.5 percentage points in rural areas.

The unemployment rate is traditionally higher for men than for women. In the third quarter of 2019, the unemployment rate for men is 1.7 percentage points higher than for women. However, the unemployment rate for both men and women declined by 1.1 percentage points compared to the same period of last year.


According to Sakstat, the level of activity is higher for men than for women. In the third quarter of 2019, the rate was 54.2 percent for women and 71.9 percent for men. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the level of activity decreased almost equally for both men and women by 1.9 and 2.0 percentage points, respectively.

In the third quarter of 2019, the employment rate of both women and men fell by 1.0 percentage points compared to the same period of the previous year.
