Georgia’s tourism industry faced more than $ 100 million in losses in July-August

In July-August 2019, Georgian tourism sector’s losses exceeded $ 100 million, the head of the National Tourism Administration Mariam Kvrivishvili says.

According to her, in July the loss amounted to $ 57 million, in August-  $ 56 million dollars.

“The losses were caused by  Russia’s travel  sanctions. At the same time, number of tourists from EU countries increased  that  is a very positive trend. All our marketing efforts are aimed at increasing the number of tourists from Europe, ”she explains.

In the words of  the representative of the Prime Minister’s Office  Beka Liluashvili, in 2020 a total of GEL 115 million will be allocated to  develop the country’s tourism potential.


“These funds will be spent on an advertising campaign, an increase in the entrepreneurial culture as well as in the level of service. Activities are also planned to be carried out to  increase the qualifications of owners and managers of small and medium-sized hotels. Mountain resorts development will also be among top priorities , ”he notes.
