Commercial banks earned GEL 66 547 460 from fines and penalties on loans from consumers in nine months of 2019 that is GEL 6,029 million more than in the same period of last year.
TBC Bank received the highest income from penalties which amounted to GEL 18 978 407, the second is Bank of Georgia - GEL 12 937 133.
Cartu Bank earned GEL 8 760 192 from penalties. On the fourth place is Liberty Bank with GEL 7 300 757. The top five includes also Credo Bank with GEL 7 045 732 million.
In the opinion of the financiers, the incomes received by banks through commissions and fines clearly demonstrate the high profit margins of Georgian banks, and the penalties they impose are too high.
