“The increase in the security tariff was not a surprise for us, as we had been  informed in advance. Of course, we are not happy with the additional costs, but passenger safety is our priority, ” Roman Bokeria, General Director of Georgian Airways, says.

To  ensure the safety of aircraft and passengers at Georgian airports, security tariff will be increased  from  February 1 and  in Tbilisi airport, it will grow from 3,7 to 6,2 euros per passenger.

In  Bokeria’s words, the airline will pay this amount despite the company’s difficult financial situation.

“Despite economic, financial or political situation, safety is a priority  for any airline. We will pay this tariff, although another question is how reasonable is its almost two-fold increase,” Bokeria notes.

According to the Georgian Airports Association, the increased tariff will allow to take more effective measures to increase the safety of aircraft and passengers.

The tariff growth will depend on the airports - in Tbilisi the tariff will double, in Batumi it will increase by $ 1 from $ 4, 5 to $ 5, 5 per passenger.

At Kutaisi airport, the security tariff will increase by $ 1 - from $ 3 to 4 per person.
