Amid Georgia’s ban on the plastic bags, the
country's first facility to produce disposable
tableware from biodegradable materials will
start operating in Gori.
The company's management is waiting for the equipment which will be installed by the end of August and production will begin in September.
“There are two ways- paper or biodegradable materials. The paper has significant drawbacks - it is expensive and it is not very convenient for wet products. Packages from biodegradable materials are 2 times cheaper than paper ones, which is very important for the public and business. These are environmentally friendly packages which are quickly decompose when interacting in the soil and do not pose a threat to the environment. biodegradable materials mostly consist of starch, ” the company representative Giorgi Davitaya says.
The first stage includes the replacement of plastic bags, the second - the replacement of plastic disposable tableware - plates, glasses, etc., which are widely used in Georgia but pose a threat to the environment.
