state still cannot adequately control the gambling business, it is still not
officially known how many people in Georgia are with gaming disorder,
nobody knows the number of suicides due to major
loss, nobody knows how many families were left without a roof over their heads due
to gambling debts.
Despite all this, the bill on gambling prepared by the Parliament has
been hanging in the air for almost 6
The government and the central bank are tightening banking
regulations to reduce the excessive indebtedness of the population, while gambling companies find ways to bypass the new
rules and attract new customers – they create plastic cards to complicate
control over gamers.
According to the MP from the ruling party, Bidzina
Gegidze, who is one of the initiators of the bill to ban advertising of
gambling, the issue of plastic cards needs to be studied in more detail.
He believes it’s wrong to say that the ruling party does not
pass laws regulating gambling, as there are MPs who lobby this business in Parliament.
“In fact, no one lobbies anything in parliament, but there
is a reality —a budget needs to be replenished. Gambling is one of the sources to
fill out the budget. When we talk about the gambling business, we must clearly set
priorities, what is more important - the budget or people? The state should give
the answer to this question that must be fair and pragmatic, ”the MP says.
