Business sector’s turnover up 38.5 percent in Q1, 2021

In the III quarter of 2021 compared to the same quarter of previous year the volume of business sector turnover increased by 38.5 percent and amounted to 40.5 billion GEL. The production value of the business sector is characterized by the increasing tendency. In the III quarter of 2021, its volume equaled to 15.0 billion GEL, which is year-on-year 29.0 percent more.

In the III quarter of 2021, 60.5 percent of total turnover comes on large and 18.0 percent – on medium businesses while 21.5 percent is distributed to small business. A small difference is in case of total production value: 42.1 percent comes on large, 27.4 percent – on medium and 30.5 percent on small businesses.

In III quarter of 2021, total purchases of goods and services carried out by enterprises equaled to 22.0 billion GEL (year-on-year 33.7 percent more), while the purchase goods and services for resale amounted 13.7 billion GEL (year-on-year 38.2 percent more). In the III quarter of 2021, the average number of persons employed equaled to 678.0 thousand, which is year-on-year 5.0 percent more. Out of the total number of persons employed, 42.4 percent are female and 57.6 percent are male.

39.6 percent of total number of persons employed comes on large, 22.6 percent – on medium and 37.8 percent - on small businesses. The total number of employees amounted 647.3 thousands (year-on-year 6.0 percent more). The total personnel costs of enterprises equaled to 2 894.1 million GEL (year-on-year 18.7 percent more). In the III quarter of 2021, average monthly remuneration of employed persons equaled to 1 455.5 GEL (year-on-year increase by 149.7 GEL) while remuneration of employed women made up 1 143.6 GEL (year-on-year increase by 145.2 GEL). Average monthly remuneration of employed persons by size of enterprises is as follows: • LARGE BUSINESS – 1 484.2 GEL • MEDIUM BUSINESS – 1 703.8 GEL • SMALL BUSINESS – 1 253.7 GEL

In the III quarter of 2021, the trade sector (including repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles) has the highest share (36.5 percent) in the total turnover in business sector, followed by arts, entertainment and recreation with 32.4 percent share, manufacturing – 9.9 percent, construction – 5.8 percent, transportation and storage – 4.2 percent, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply – 2.9 percent and other sectors with 8.3 percent share.


In the III quarter of 2021, manufacturing (24.2 percent), trade (19.3 percent), construction (16.8 percent), and transportation and storage (8.3 percent) are on the top four places in business sector production value. Rest of sectors have the 31.4 percent share.

In the III quarter of 2021, trade (wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles), manufacturing and Human health and social work activities are leading in business sector by number of employees (accordingly with 27.4 percent, 12.8 percent and 10.7 percent share). However, construction activities (9.2 percent), Enterprises engaged in transportation and storage (8.0 percent) and Accommodation and food service activities (5.1 percent) have also a significant share.

By regions, Tbilisi and following regions are leading in gross turnover: Tbilisi – 77.2 percent , Adjara – 5.4 percent ,Imereti – 4.8 prcent , Kvemo Kartli – 4.4 percent, Samegrelo-Zemo svaneti – 2.2 percent

By regions, Tbilisi and following regions are still leading in gross production value: Tbilisi – 61.7 percent,  Adjara – 9.2 percent, Imereti – 7.4 prcent, Kvemo Kartli – 7.3 percent,  Samegrelo-Zemo svaneti –3.5 percent.
