Georgia meets the tourist season with the same infrastructural problems as always such as  the lack of public toilets, bad roads leading to the main cultural monuments. Some roads have not yet been made, others have been made, but over the past year became unusable making the problem unsolved.

According to the president of the Association of Georgian Incoming Tour Operator Ia Tabagari, the country faces the resort season with a number of problems that may cause discontent among tourists, and can even  reduce their number despite the growing interest towards  Georgia as a tourist destination.

“We have  good expectations about the upcoming holiday season, but the country faces  many problems, especially infrastructure. Last year, roads leading to  several monasteries were repaired, but within a year they got out of order. In some routes there are still no roads and even bus drivers refuse to go there, ”she notes.

Ia Tabagari says that the government’s goal is to increase  the number of tourists to 8-9 million people, but when it speaks about such a figure, the country should be ready for this.

“Apart from infrastructure problems, many things in our country are done  thoughtlessly, without the involvement of tourism and ecology experts. For example, in one of the canyons they are going to build a giant hotel  despite this is a national reserve, ” Ia Tabagari notes.

She speaks about  a negative impact of a growing number of tourists on the cultural monuments.
