500,853 guests have visited Georgia’s protected areas this year

As of September 30, the number of visitors to the protected areas of Georgia has increased 2.4-fold compared to the same period of last year.

In  9 months of 2021, 500 853 guests visited  Georgia’s protected areas. Among the visitors, 48% are citizens of Georgia (242,601) and 52% (258,252) are citizens of other countries. It’s worth mentioning  that the number of foreign visitors has increased 10.4-fold.

In 9 months of 2021 the most visited places are as follows:

1. Martvili Canyon

2. Cave of Prometheus


3. Kazbegi National Park

4. Okatse Canyon

5. Mtirala National Park

The Agency of Protected Areas of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture is actively developing  ecotourism in the country. Despite the pandemic, work has been underway to build and operate  new ecotourism facilities.
