At the beginning of the 2025/2026 school year, there were 2 294 general education institutions in Georgia, including 2 086 public and 206 private schools. Number of schools decreased by 2 unit compared to the previous school year. By region, most of schools (17.1%) are located in Imereti.
At the beginning of the 2025/2026 school year, 644.2 thousand pupils were studying in general education institutions, which is 0.6 percent higher compared to the same indicator of the previous school year. 88.8 percent of pupils attend public schools and 11.2 percent – private schools. Of the total number of pupils, 48.4 percent are girls, while 51.6 percent are boys. Among the regions, most of pupils (36.0 %) study in Tbilisi.
In 2025, 41.4 thousand pupils graduated from upper secondary school, which is 0.8 percent less compared to the same indicator of the previous year. 55.0 thousand pupils graduated from primary education, that is 1.8 percent less compared to the previous year.
At the beginning of the 2025/2026 school year, 66.3 thousand teachers were employed in general education institutions, which is 0.5 percent higher compared to the same indicator of the previous year. The majority of teachers are women; in particular, the share of women is 87.6 percent, while the share of men - 12.4 percent.
